FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Why am I required to use a power meter?

A: Using a power meter allows us to set more precise training and racing zones. The power meter is the gold standard for cycling computers- it WILL make  you faster! In addition to that, when athletes submit their power files, the coach has the ability to really dig into the workout and see exactly how effective the workout was in order to make future training changes as required. For more information on the benefits of racing with a power meter, click here.

Q: Why am I required to use a GPS/Heart Rate device?

A: The use of a GPS/Heart Rate gives you the athlete a LOT of data feedback throughout  the entire workout (pace, speed, distance and HR). In addition to that, when athletes submit their GPS/Heart Rate files, it enables your coach to analyze the entire workout using precise times, distances and pacing, combined with the HR data.  The in-depth information that is gained by the GPS/Heart Rate files allows your coach to adjust your training schedule as required by fitness gains.

Q: Why are there so many rules and restrictions?

A: The rules and restrictions are put in place to ensure that the athlete and coach are both clear about what is expected from both parties.

Q: If I only want to sign up for the 24 weeks of training, but it doesn’t start before the training camps, am I still able to attend the training camps for free?

A: YES! If an athlete enrolls in the Iron Guarantee program prior to a camp, they are able to attend the free training camps in Phoenix, AZ or Boulder, CO.

Q: Why should I sign up for more than the minimum 24 weeks of training?

A: The quality of coaching that you receive at Break Through Multisport is unparallel. It takes time for a athlete and coach to get on the same page and into a good solid rhythm when it comes to training. The more time that we are able to work together, the more dialed in we are able to get and the faster and stronger you will get.

Q: Why do I have to post all of my workouts on Training Peaks every day?

A: This is the accountability portion of the coaching package. By posting your workouts, your coach is able to evaluate all of your workouts in order to make any adjustments that are required.

Q: What happens if my power meter stops working during training?

A: It is the athletes responsibility of each athlete to make sure that their power meters are functioning properly. We understand that sometimes this will  happen, but if this occurs on a regular basis, it is the athletes responsibility to make sure they have a fully functioning power meter. Q: Why do I have to race with the power meter and/or GPS/HR device?

A: The power meter is the most important tool that you will have with you while you are riding in the IM. When you and your coach come up with a race plan, it will involve what wattage ranges you should be riding in throughout the ride. The power meter will take ALL f the guess workout out of how hard you should be riding.

Q: What happens if my power meter and/or GPS/HR device fails during the race?

A: It is the athletes responsibility to make sure that the power meter and GPS/HR device is functioning properly. If either device fails during the race, the athlete is disqualified from the guarantee. If you are concerned about your power meter or GPS/HR device functioning properly, make sure that you take care of it before the race. If you are renting from BTMS, contact your coach immediately if a problem arises prior to the race.

Q: What happens if my power meter and/or GPS/HR monitor runs out of batteries during the race?

A: It is the athletes responsibility to make sure that the power meter and GPS/HR device is functioning properly to include having a new or fully charged battery.

Q: Are all of these rules and regulations important?

A: If you complete the workouts as they are prescribed and follow the race plan- NO, you will set a new PR and they are irrelevant.

Q: Can I use a Garmin 305 instead of a 405?

A: As long as it has GPS tracking and Heart Rate, it is fine. Contact BTMS to make sure that your device is acceptable.
